Lottie are unique dolls created by Arklu, a company founded in December 2010 by Lucie Follet and Ian Harkin. Wanting to give their loved ones unique gifts, however, they couldn't find dolls on the market that would be a perfect fit for little girls. Most of them had too many adult features and were overly sexualized. Doing some preliminary market research, Lucie and Ian discovered that the market needed "healthy dolls" - ones that had the potential to become a child's best friend.
The body proportions are preserved in Lottie, and the doll is devoid of makeup, jewelry or high heels. Lottie has been developed to promote a positive approach to childhood, as well as to relate to correct body image. She is a nine-year-old with a childlike body that makes the children playing with her treat her more like a friend than an ideal to aspire to. Lottie doll's body is realistic and carefully scaled. All this is done to take care of the child's psyche and not to expose them to a vision of an idealized and disproportionate body that is not found in the real world.
The Lottie doll was launched in 2012. Since then, she has been continuously popular around the world. The Lottie doll has movable arms and legs, as well as long hair that is perfect for combing. She also has her own passions and interests. She loves playing outdoors and is the perfect companion for any adventure! Our store offers, among others, a paleontologist, ballerina, astronaut or schoolgirl doll.
The Arklu company's design aims to reinforce role models and teach the youngest to believe in themselves and their abilities. The doll was inspired by, among others, Pippi Longstocking, the title character of a novel by Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren. Pippi is a girl who is strong and perfectly able to cope with the world around her. Confident, resourceful and exposing the hypocrisy of adults, she is always willing to help those in need. Such is also the Lottie doll, which wants to teach leadership qualities to children as well. The brand makes sure that every little girl feels special and strong. So that she believes in herself and feels that she can change the world for the better!
The Arklu company went a long way to bring the Lottie doll to market. At first, retailers were reluctant to support a product that didn't quite fit the doll trend. Lottie was neither tall nor excessively slim, nor did she wear high heels and a handbag. Lucie Follet and Ian Harkin decided to take matters into their own hands and finance the doll's production with their own funds. This was the only way they could stay true to their values and provide the youngest with a product that is unique and innovative. This has been confirmed by numerous international awards, as well as press coverage published in The Guardian, New York Times and Forbes, among others. Today, Lottie dolls are present in more than 30 countries around the world.
